Initially, the planning for a year-long trip around the world seemed manageable but factor in a 6-year old boy, a home-schooling schedule, stepping away from the security of the Canadian medical system along with constant movement as well as a pandemic that is creating a myriad of considerations for travel and the task of planning the same trip becomes seemingly, insurmountable. Simply packing our bags and leaving was not an option as we had to ensure that we had someone to take care of our house as well as our dog. The need to ensure that we also had all of our finances in order was paramount and this included items such as our payment schedule from our deferred salary plan as well as our tenants who were renting out our house. We also needed to be certain that our current payments such as medical, home and travel insurance were scheduled and as morbid as it may sound, the possession of a current Will and Testament was a necessity for us. All of these little items only compounded to the already stressful trip-planning but was something that had to be done. Once these were crossed off of the list, it made It easier to focus on the actual trip planning; however, this too was not without its complications.
